Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), Multan, is hosting the International Conference on Sustainable Food Systems in a Changing Climate and the Industrial Expo from October 13 -15, 2026, bringing together academic leaders, scientists, policymakers, industry representatives, and development partners to explore sustainable solutions for food security and climate resilience.
The inaugural session, scheduled for October 14 at Jinnah Auditorium, BZU, will feature a welcome note by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Riaz, Dean, Faculty of Food Sciences and Nutrition, BZU Multan, followed by a keynote address by Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan (SI, HI), Chairman of the Punjab Higher Education Commission, as the chief guest, with Dr. Muhammad Zubair Iqbal, Vice Chancellor of BZU, serving as patron-in-chief.
Prof. Emeritus Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, Rector of the University of Southern Punjab (USP), Multan, Pakistan, and Editor-in-Chief of Greeningdotlive, warmly appreciated BZU’s initiative, calling the conference a timely and commendable contribution to Pakistan’s scientific, agricultural, and economic development. He emphasized that universities must play a proactive role in addressing climate change, strengthening food security, and promoting sustainable industrial growth through research, innovation, and effective university–industry partnerships. He also congratulated BZU’s leadership and the organizing team for providing a valuable platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange, particularly to advance Southern Punjab.
The program features keynote lectures on critical challenges across the food value chain. Prof. Dr. Abdul Wakeel will discuss “Farming the Future: Soil Health, Emissions, and Carbon Markets,” while Prof. Dr. Tahir Zahoor will address “From Farm to Fork: Sustainable Food Processing, Preservation and Value Addition.” These topics underscore the importance of climate-smart agriculture, responsible resource management, reduced post-harvest losses, and improved value addition.
Other speakers include academic leaders from BZU, representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Punjab, development partners, and industry professionals, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of sustainable food systems.
The accompanying industrial expo offers opportunities to strengthen collaboration between research institutions and businesses, showcase industrial capabilities, and encourage the translation of scientific knowledge into practical, commercially viable solutions.
The conference is especially relevant to Southern Punjab, where agriculture is vital to livelihoods, employment, and regional economic development. By connecting research, technology, and industry, the event aims to foster innovative approaches to sustainable food production, processing, and adaptation to climate.
The conference reinforces a shared vision: a sustainable food future requires scientific innovation, climate resilience, efficient resource use, and strong partnerships among universities, government, industry, and society.
