The Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University in Sindh, Pakistan, hosted a two-day international conference this week through its Department of Business, focusing on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategies to enhance resilience against climate change. The event attracted academics, policymakers, and subject-matter experts from across Pakistan and internationally, highlighting a growing global focus on integrated approaches to address environmental issues.

The conference was chaired by Prof. Dr. Madad Ali Shah, bringing together a wide range of institutional leaders, researchers, and international scholars. Participants engaged in discussions on how ESG frameworks can be applied to address the complex, interconnected impacts of climate change on ecosystems, economies, and societies.

Speakers emphasized that climate change has become one of the defining challenges of the modern era, with widespread impacts beyond environmental damage. They stressed the importance of preparing future generations with the knowledge, research skills, and innovative thinking needed to tackle these issues effectively.

Central to the discussions was the role of higher education institutions in promoting sustainable development. Participants highlighted that real progress relies on integrating environmental responsibility, social equity, and strong governance into both policies and practices. Universities, they pointed out, are especially suited to lead through research, policy involvement, and community-led initiatives.

Addressing students and faculty, speakers called for greater environmental awareness and responsible resource management, urging young scholars to contribute to societal progress through research and innovation actively. They also highlighted international conferences as essential forums for knowledge sharing, allowing participants to learn from global experiences and improve strategies for the future.

The event ended with a ceremony honoring participants and contributors. The Vice Chancellor stated that such academic activities improve research skills and prepare students to address modern global challenges. He added that engaging directly with international experts provides valuable exposure to new ideas and approaches, while also fostering institutional partnerships that can lead to joint research and development efforts across countries.
