Toward shaping Pakistan's clean energy future, the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has nominated Dr. Irfan Ahmad Gondal, Chairperson of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology at the National Skills University Islamabad (NSU), to join the Planning Commission's national team tasked with developing the country's Hydrogen Energy Strategy.

The appointment marks a defining moment in Dr. Gondal's academic and professional journey and NSU's ascent as a hub for innovation, skills-based education, and national policy leadership in sustainable technologies.

With Pakistan at a critical juncture in its energy transition, struggling with climate-related pressures, energy shortfalls, and the need for long-term decarbonization, Dr. Gondal's expertise in sustainable energy systems places him among the country's leading minds capable of delivering actionable insights. His nomination signals the increasing role that academic institutions and technical experts are beginning to play in strategic national planning.

"This is more than a personal achievement. It is a proud milestone for the entire NSU community," said the Founding Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar. "Our faculty are not only preparing the next generation of skilled professionals but are also directly influencing national policy in areas that matter most: clean energy, sustainability, and technological self-reliance."

Dr. Gondal's selection comes as global energy discourse rapidly shifts toward hydrogen as a viable, scalable alternative to fossil fuels. His involvement is expected to shape a robust and contextually grounded hydrogen energy roadmap for Pakistan, one that leverages local capacities while aligning with global standards and partnerships.

The move also reflects NSU's broader institutional ethos: a university rooted in applied learning and national relevance that is now steadily emerging as a thought leader in Pakistan's skills and sustainability landscape.

As Pakistan eyes hydrogen as a clean energy source and a means to reduce dependence on imported fuels, Dr. Gondal's role could prove instrumental in guiding policy frameworks and industrial implementation.
