In a symbolic act of environmental solidarity, ambassadors from various Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) member and partner nations convened at the COMSATS Secretariat to participate in the “Go Green Initiative – Plantation Drive.” Hosted by Executive Director Ambassador Dr Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, the event saw envoys from Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Syria, and Yemen each plant a tree, underscoring shared aspirations for ecological stewardship and international cooperation.

Among the participants was British MP Ms. Naz Shah, who lent her support to the initiative by planting a tree. In her remarks, she lauded the drive as both timely and necessary.

The ambassadors emphasised that global environmental sustainability can only be achieved through collective action, given climate change’s deep and multifaceted impacts.

COMSATS, an intergovernmental organisation of 27 countries, continues to spearhead South–South collaboration through science, technology, and innovation for sustainable development. The plantation drive forms part of its broader climate agenda, including electric vehicle development, renewable energy research, such as vertical-axis wind turbines, and solarisation of its Technology Park. COMSATS' Centre for Climate and Sustainability is a key player in these efforts, which links 24 institutions globally and significantly strengthens this organization's role in environmental initiatives.
